Maison Constant hosted the crew of Fresh Water for Flowers

The film "Fresh Water for Flowers", directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, is an adaptation of the best-selling novel by Valérie Perrin. Filming began on 5 May 2025 and ran for thirteen weeks, with Autun as the main location, alongside the Paris region, the Vosges and the south of France.

Autun was chosen partly for its Maladière cemetery, which offers a fitting setting for a story built around Violette Toussaint, a cemetery keeper. The director and his team were also won over by the town's warm and attentive welcome. In the space of two years, Autun has hosted two feature films, following Nous les Leroy in 2023.

The Autun shoot involved almost 200 technicians, actors and extras of all ages. The production took care to respect the nature of the site, pausing filming during burials and guiding families during their visits.

Where do you house a film crew?

Maison Constant was rented for Fresh Water for Flowers and took part in housing the crew. The main house accommodated some of the technicians, the set decorators in particular, while the Sequoia and Ginkgo cottages housed the make-up artists, including those looking after Leïla Bekhti.

The grounds of Maison Constant proved a particular draw for the crew, offering somewhere green to rest a few steps from the set. Board games and outdoor games were available, and the flat gravel area around the house served as a pétanque court. The barbecue turned the place into a genuine retreat during their time off.

The Fresh Water for Flowers shoot highlights Autun's ability to host large-scale film productions. With its authentic setting and distinctive atmosphere, Maison Constant was a significant asset for the film, providing both accommodation and a place to unwind for the crew.
